چکیده

Using data from a range of Australian languages, in this paper we argue for an analysis of various nominal appositional structures as syntactic coordinations (i.e. as hybrid f-structures) in LFG. We show that this provides a simple and straightforward account of the surface syntactic similarities among a range of juxtaposed construction types, while the differences between the constructions can be accounted for in the mapping to the semantics. We propose meaning constructors to capture the semantic differences between coordination and apposition.1

Apposition and Coordination in Australian Languages: An LFG Analysis

It is well known that Australian languages make heavy use of nominal apposition. However there is little discussion in the theoretical literature of how such appositional structures should be analysed syntactically. We present a range of data from Australian languages illustrating how multiple nominals share a single gramamtical function within the clause. We argue that such constructions shoul...

Nominal juxtaposition in Australian languages: An LFG analysis

We discuss a range of data from Australian languages illustrating how multiple nominals share a single grammatical function within the clause. We argue that such construction...

Coordination of verbal dependents in Old French: Coordination as a specified juxtaposition or apposition

Scholars have proposed many different models to describe coordination of verbal dependents. We give a brief presentation of the most common ways to deal with this construction from a general point of view. Then, we evaluate the adequacy of the models using data from Old French. In this particular language, coordination is a more elaborated form of juxtaposition and apposition, which differs onl...

Mirror Neurons and (Inter)subjectivity: Typological Evidence from East Asian Languages

Language is primarily constituted by action and interaction based on sensorimotor information. This paper demonstrates the nature of subjectivity and intersubjectivity through the neural mechanism and typological evidence of sentence-final particles from East Asian languages and extends to the discussion of the relationship between them. I propose that intersubjecivity is a kind of embedded or ...
